After hot rolling, steel coils are usually placed on the floor for the cooling process, then carried to the warehouse or shipping area once cool. The large steel chassis pictured here is specially designed to allow the coil to load directly on its V-shape top, so that when needed, a semi-tractor can go directly beneath the chassis, lift it up, and go where the coils are needed. With this chassis type, the coils are lifted and loaded only once before they are taken out from the steel mills, meaning there is no need to be put them onto the floor, then load onto a vehicle with a crane. Because of this, the chassis is also called a pallet and assists in improving logistics management in steel mills.
We were contracted to build 36 of these steel chassis, 26 of which were equipped with a hard wooden plate secured by bolts into the V shape top to serve as a cushion. The maximum load capacity of this chassis is 200 tons of coils, with a maximum weight of each coil at 32 tons, while the chassis itself only weighs 17 tons.
The steel material used to produce the chassis are I beams, H x B 294x200, 200x200, 175x175, 175x90, steel angle L30x3, L50x5, L63x6,L75x8, steel channel 300x87, square tube 200x6, coupling with steel plates and checked plates of different thicknesses ranging from 2.5mm to 30mm.
The chassis is then coated with an epoxy paint after fabrication, and equipped with reflective plastic signs on the rear and sides for safety purposes.
Because the chassis are so large, the production takes up quite a bit of space, and requires a large capacity crane with plenty of room for movement. We have an advantageous location on a waterfront, allowing us to carry out production easily, and then quickly ship out of Chinese ports to Japan, then from there, to the customer.
